Problems viewing Chickenman

General HTML

Chickenman is developed and tested with Opera 5.12, and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5. It should be more or less standard HTML, but if you have problems viewing the pages, please let me know which page, and which browser/OS you are using!

Early episodes

The early episodes (1-3 and early drafts) are presented as Javascript animations. If you can't see these it may be because

  • You've chosen not to run Javascript programs. Some people decide to do this because there is some possibility of security problems running on Javascript. Your browser may allow you to change these settings by choosing menu options like, for example:
    • Tools - Internet Options
    • File - Preferences
    • Edit - Preferences
  • Your browser may not be capable of viewing Javascript. Often you can fix this by upgrading to a later version of your browser. Most of the popular browsers: Opera, Netscape, Internet Explorer etc. are free on PC's and Macs. Linux and other systems have many good free browsers (Konqueror? etc.) which should be able to run Javascript, if enabled.

If you can't run Javascript from your Web Browser, but have Java enabled on your machine, you could download JavE (the editor that I use to create these animations) from www.jave.de and then download the animations in the .jmov format developed for JavE.

Later episodes

The later episodes (Episode 4 onwards) are presented using the JavE player, which is a Java applet. Again, this requires Java software in your browser: your browser may not be capable of running this, or you may have disabled it.

Also, Java can sometimes be slow: it may take a few seconds to open, but if you've waited, say, a minute, there may be a problem. Let me know!

Other formats?

If you are unable to view the animations, you can still read the diary, and look at the comic strip versions (These may lag slightly behind the animated episodes).

But of course, if I get any response, I'm willing to post in alternative formats: any suggestions on format? Animated .gif images might work (but only for shorter animations), otherwise I think it's the old 'flickbook' style animation... Let me know !

More help needed?

If you have problems with viewing the animations, please email me with the following details

  • Which animation are you trying to view?
  • What Operating system are you using? (e.g. Windows 95, MacOS 9, Linux etc.)
  • What Internet Browser are you using? (e.g. Netscape 6, Internet Explorer 5.01, Opera 6.1 etc.)
  • Are you getting any error messages? What is the full text of the error message
